Can't Wait for Chochon!

Cochon 555 Poster
I was living in San Francisco when I first heard of Chochon 555.  A mythical event of epic proportion - it brought together 5 chefs, 5 pigs, and 5 winemakers for a ridiculous feast and exciting competition.  I didn't make it and I've kicked myself ever since.

Fate, it turns out, is a foodie with a sympathetic heart.  Two years later I find myself on the other side of the country working at one of the farms that has been selected to compete in this year's event.  I don't know who the other farms are yet, but you can read more about the chefs and winemakers here.

I was lucky enough to meet two of the chefs - Tarver King and Bryan Voltaggio - when I was working as the General Manager for Local Roots, A Farm-to-Table Restaurant.  Both are great chefs and cool guys.  I can't wait to see what they come up with for Cochon!

When we find out who our chef is, we'll let you know.  In the meantime, we'll be focused on giving a lot of love to our Big Blacks - getting them ready for the big day.

Tomatoes Tomatoes Tomatoes

I know its hard to believe, but this year we have even more Tomato varieties to plant! I just got some Ananas Noire seeds in the mail today. I traded seeds last week at Meadowbrook in Shawsville and was gifted several varieties by a retired gardener that had been handed down through at least 4 generations of Southern families. Jeanna left me a note asking how many more tomatoes to plant this week. I am going to have so much fun making that list and leaving the seeds out for her. We will blog you that list soon!

Garden Renovations Begin

As plants sprout in the greenhouse, we've begun to renovate our garden. We'll be repairing the deer fencing and turning over the soil. This will ensure that by the time our plants are mature enough to leave the greenhouse, we'll be ready for them in the garden.

We're working on a video tour of our garden-in-the-making, so stay tuned!

Sprouts in the Greenhouse

Last week planting started at Leaping Waters Farm. We now have sprouts! Inside out greenhouse it is a nice 65 degrees Fahrenheit which perfect for growing conditions. Already broccoli and arugula have made their appearance known and our asparagus is soon to follow. Today I am planting many items including okra, spinach, and eggplant.

Thank you for those whom have shown interest in our vegetable baskets. The growing interest is very exciting. There are still spaces in the program so let us know if you are interested!
